SE: Several wolves visit Skåne

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

MALMÖ / TT

Skåne has been visited by a wolf – or rather two.

When snow fell in mid-January two wolves were tracked almost simultaneously outside Vittsjo in northern Skåne and outside Osby only twenty or thirty kilometers from there.

Wolf Droppings, analyzed by SLU’s research station in Grimsö in Västmanland, shows that there are two males, both from the territory in Örebro County.

Droppings from both the wolves have previously been found at various sites in Småland. In Skåne there have either known to have been no wolf attacks on domestic animals since seven sheep were killed by wolves in Emmaboda on the border of Småland in October last year.

“Wolves are actually programmed to hunt wild game and cope with it,” says Bertil Nilsson, predator control officer of the County Administrative Board in Skåne.

According to him, the two wolf males are likely seeking a partner and can in pursuit of a potential mate move remarkably long distances.
